DIRT

Will Rassmussen and Bob in the dirt at the Chase Hawks Memorial Rough Stock Rodeo

It’s all about dirt and it is a Western Thing.

I’ve been hesitant to put myself out in the world wide web, don’t tweet, BookFace is not my deal and from what I see, there is way to much dirt in the social media world.

After a lot of persuasion and careful consideration I am going to be blogging. I’m not going to be spreading any rumors, just my opinions and giving all of you a chance to hear about the latest Bobventures and spend a little time reading about the things I like best.

One of those things is DIRT! It’s gotten a bad rep lately because of politics and frankly I’ve been a little offended by that. You see, dirt is a good thing. It’s what our farmers plow up, plant and grow our food in. Ranchers utilize it for forage for livestock. And, every rodeo arena, equestrian function, and livestock show requires some really good dirt.

That dirt has made me a living. I like to get my hands in it, plant flowers — yes plant flowers — grow hay and watch what dirt produces. I like to see a bucking horse kick it up into the announcers stand, a tie-down roping horse stop in it and a barrel horse turn in it.

Mostly I love to see kids play in it. It gives me hope for the future, that we might be raising some farmers and ranchers that have an appreciation for really good dirt. After all, it’s a good part of this good earth’s surface area and it is as important as the air we breath. So next time you take a step off of the concrete, appreciate God’s dirt and everything it gives to us.
